Rethinking Web Design as Living System Design
As designers and programmers, we are regularly faced with projects that have to live both on desktops and on mobile screens – a situation that brings a lot of questions with it.
On the surface there is a basic decision to be made. Do you simplify to make sure every viewer gets something?
Or do you specialize to make sure that your most targeted audience gets an optimal experience?

Every Great Dream Starts With a Dreamer
Gail’s Story
The fun thing about people in our industry is they tend to be those who followed their dreams. They realized they had the creative chip early on and focused on a path that allowed them to unfold their innovative and inspired capabilities over time.
For me, I like to write. I realized that when I was nine years old. During that time, I’d walk around my grade school clutching a brown paper folder with dozens of my early and mostly horrid attempts at poetry. Later at age 13, I formed an acoustic group—two guitars and a hand drum—and started writing lyrics. We mostly performed at school events, parties, and in my friend’s basement. Later I recorded several demos of my own compositions at Warner Brothers Studios in Burbank. It felt like I was “almost famous.”

Nerd Spotlight: Diane Kenedy (aka Cosmic Glue)
As an Oregon transplant, one of the things that I profoundly enjoy about Portland is the high nerd population density. I’ve definitely embraced my inner nerd more outwardly since relocating here. I’m pretty sure my officemates are tired of hearing about my love for Excel and I may have attended a few…okay numerous…Battle Star Galactica viewings at the Baghdad Theatre.
